Setelah berpuasa mencari Tuhan, Ezra memilih orang-orang yang setia yang akan bekerja. Dua belas imam dan dua belas orang Lewi telah dipilih. Mereka dipilih karena mereka adalah kudus, dan semua benda-benda persembahan emas dan perak adalah juga kudus bagi Tuhan. Dengan hati-hati, Ezra menimbang dan membagi-bagikan benda-benda kudus tersebut kepada para imam dan orang Lewi, dan memberikan mereka tanggung jawab untuk menyimpan untuk kemudian diserahkan kembali pada waktu mereka tiba di Yerusalem.

Menurut kamu, apakah para imam dan orang Lewi dapat diandalkan atas tanggung jawab yang diberikan? Mereka telah dipilih Tuhan untuk melakukan pekerjaan yang kudus itu. Tentu saja, mereka harus melakukannya dengan penuh tanggung jawab. Mereka adalah orang-orang terbaik yang seharusnya dapat dipercaya untuk menjaga semua perlengkapan rumah Tuhan. Tanpa mereka, Ezra akan sangat terbebani dan tidak akan dapat menanggungnya sendiri. Itu akan menjadi beban yang terlalu besar untuknya.

Dapatkah kamu dipercaya untuk melakukan tugas dari orang tua kamu?

Jika orang tua kamu memberi tugas kepada kamu untuk menjaga adik atau membersihkan kamar, dan lain-lain, itu berarti kamu harus melakukannya dengan:

Sambil mempersiapkan keperluan perjalanan jauh dan berbahaya itu, Ezra dan orang-orangnya mempersiapkan diri untuk ‘puasa dan merendahkan diri di hadapan Tuhan’. Ini berarti mereka tidak makan dan minum, tetapi berfokus hanya pada doa dan membaca Firman Tuhan. Mereka melihat kebutuhan akan perlindungan, baik secara fisik maupun rohani ketika mereka akan menyeberangi negeri-negeri musuh mereka. Yang lemah tidak akan mungkin dapat bertahan dalam perjalanan yang berbahaya ini. Apakah akan ada yang berputus asa dan berbalik kembali ke Babel?

Apalagi, mereka sudah berkata kepada raja bahwa Tuhan akan bersama dengan mereka, dan Tuhan sendiri menjamin akan keberhasilan perjalanan itu. Mereka tidak mempunyai prajurit-prajurit atau pasukan berkuda yang akan melindungi. Tanpa Tuhan, perjalanan mereka akan berakhir dengan kegagalan. Untuk itu, mereka berpuasa dan berdoa dan merendahkan diri di hadapan Tuhan.

Kedua ayat ini mengingatkan bagaimana kita seharusnya selalu siap untuk memuji dan berterima kasih kepada Tuhan atas kebaikan-Nya. Setelah Zerubabel dan Yesua selesai membangun rumah Tuhan enam puluh tahun sebelumnya, maka mereka memutuskan untuk terus melanjutkannya dengan mengatur kebaktian penyembahan (seperti liturgi gereja). Maka Ezra bersyukur akan dua hal tersebut.

Pertama, ia mengucap syukur kepada Tuhan karena telah meletakkan beban di hati raja yang bukan orang Yahudi untuk memperindah rumah Tuhan.

Kedua, ia mengucap syukur kepada Tuhan bahwa raja memilihnya untuk memimpin beberapa orang untuk kembali ke Yerusalem melanjutkan pekerjaan baik ini. Sungguh, semua itu karena Tuhanlah yang telah menggerakkan hati orang-orang tersebut, baik mereka orang berpangkat atau pun umat biasa seperti kita.

Ezra, seorang ahli kitab dan imam, memimpin ekspedisi perjalanan kedua dari Babel menuju Yerusalem sekitar enam puluh tahun setelah rumah Tuhan selesai dibangun. Ia datang dengan membawa surat dari raja Artahsasta yang memerintahkan seluruh pejabat untuk memberikan perlindungan maupun pengadaan bahan bagi umat Tuhan. Perjalanan rombongan ini memakan waktu sekitar lima bulan dari Babel (lokasi di mana negara Irak sekarang berada) sampai ke Yerusalem.

Ezra, seorang keturunan Harun, mempunyai misi rohani. Ia membawa bersamanya sejumlah para imam dan orang Lewi. Mereka akan memimpin dan mengatur kebaktian di dalam rumah Tuhan, dan juga mengajarkan Firman Tuhan kepada umat. Bacalah ayat 10 lagi: “Sebab Ezra telah bertekad untuk meneliti Taurat Tuhan dan melakukannya serta mengajar ketetapan dan peraturan di antara orang Israel.”

Gambarlah Ezra beserta rombongannya yang sedang naik kuda melewati gunung dan lembah, mengembara dari Babel ke Yerusalem.

RENUNGKAN: Tuhan ingin umat-Nya memiliki Taurat Tuhan.

DOAKAN: Tuhan Yesus, tolong saya, saya mau selalu membaca dan menaati Firman-Mu.

Belas kasih Tuhan ada kepada Zerubabel dan Yesua, dan telah memampukan pembangunan Bait Suci sampai selesai akhirnya. Bagaimana hal ini dapat terjadi? Beginilah kejadiannya.

Mereka menerima balasan surat dari Darius raja Persia. Dalam surat tersebut mereka menerima kabar baik bahwa surat perintah yang dibuat Koresh raja Persia (yang pada saat itu sudah meninggal) telah ditemukan. Dalam surat tersebut raja Koresh memerintahkan untuk mengembalikan kembali semua harta yang telah diambil dari Bait Suci oleh raja Nebukadnezar. Selain dari itu, raja Darius bahkan menyumbangkan banyak benda-benda berharga dan bantuan keuangan kepada tua-tua Yehuda untuk pembangunan Bait Suci. Akhirnya, rumah Tuhan selesai pada hari ketiga bulan Adar, pada tahun keenam pemerintahan Darius raja Persia.

Beri tanda ý pada kalimat yang aneh.

  • Sungguh luar biasa catatan perintah raja Koresh mengenai pembangunan Bait Suci di Yerusalem berhasil ditemukan kembali.
  • Sungguh ajaib bahwa seorang raja bukan bangsa Israel mengembalikan semua emas dan perak yang telah diambil dari rumah Tuhan.
  • Umat Yehuda yang dalam pengasingan merayakan selesainya pembangunan Rumah Tuhan.
  • Raja Darius, seorang raja penyembah berhala, menyumbangkan dengan sukarela banyak benda seperti binatang, gandum, garam, anggur, dan minyak bagi korban bakaran umat Tuhan.

RENUNGKAN: Pekerjaan Tuhan yang dilakukan dengan cara Tuhan tidak akan pernah kekurangan dukungan Tuhan.

DOAKAN: Tuhan Yesus, ajarlah saya pelajaran iman dan kesabaran untuk melakukan pekerjaan-Mu.

Tuhan mengirim nabi Hagai dan Zakharia untuk memberi semangat kepada umat-Nya untuk memulai kembali pembangunan rumah Tuhan di Yerusalem. Ketika kita melakukan pekerjaan Tuhan, Tuhan akan mengirim dukungan supaya pekerjaan-Nya dapat diteruskan. Para pemimpin dan umat Yehuda juga bersedia untuk taat. Tetapi, kadang kala Tuhan telah mengirim nabi-nabi-Nya, tetapi umat Tuhan tetap tidak mau taat.

Sebelum kejatuhan Yerusalem dan pembuangan umat Tuhan ke Babel, Tuhan mengirim nabi Yeremia untuk memperingatkan raja Yoyakim mengenai runtuhnya Yerusalem. Ketika raja menerima nubuat tersebut, raja menjadi marah dan bahkan berani mencabik-cabik pesan itu dan membakarnya. Ini menunjukkan bahwa raja memperlakukan Firman Tuhan dengan tidak hormat dan tidak menaatinya. Kita tidak boleh seperti itu, karena Tuhan pasti akan menghakimi dengan serius siapa pun yang akan melawan Dia.

Ketika nabi Hagai menyampaikan Firman Tuhan kepada umat Tuhan bahwa “Aku menyertai kamu”, umat Tuhan tidak lagi takut menghadapi musuh-musuh mereka dan inilah yang terjadi……

Tulislah Hagai 1:14 dalam kotak di atas menggunakan pensil warna atau krayon supaya kelihatan indah.

RENUNGKAN: Kita harus selalu taat kepada Tuhan daripada kepada manusia.

Salah satu strategi yang dipakai oleh orang Samaria, musuh bangsa Israel untuk menggagalkan pembangunan Bait Suci adalah dengan menulis surat kepada raja Artahsasta, menghasut bahwa pembangunan kota Yerusalem adalah untuk memberontak terhadap raja. Tentu saja raja menjadi waspada dan memerintahkan orang Yahudi untuk menghentikan pembangunan Bait Suci.

Maka pembangunan rumah Tuhan pun terhenti. Pemimpin Samaria dengan sengaja datang ke Yerusalem untuk memastikan perintah raja ditaati. Pada saat ini, Tuhan menggunakan nabi Hagai dan nabi Zakharia untuk memberi semangat bagi umat Tuhan untuk memulai pembangunan kembali. Umat Tuhan sama sekali tidak takut, mereka memercayakan semuanya kepada Tuhan.

Musuh orang Israel adalah orang Samaria. Orang Samaria yang mendengar suara sorak-sorai dan sukacita mendatangi Zerubabel dan para pemimpin Israel. Mereka mengatakan mereka juga ingin membantu dalam pembangunan Bait Suci. Mereka bukan dengan tulus hati hendak membantu, tetapi dengan licik mereka ingin mengambil alih paksa pekerjaan itu.

Dengan penuh hikmat, Zerubabel, Yesua dan semua pimpinan umat Tuhan menolak permintaan orang Samaria tersebut. Umat Tuhan sajalah yang akan membangun rumah bagi Tuhan mereka, seperti yang diperintahkan oleh raja Koresh, raja Persia itu. Orang Samaria pun tidak senang dan mencari kesempatan untuk melemahkan semangat orang-orang Yehuda dan mengganggu usaha pembangunan.

7 They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia. carpenters: or, workmen 8 Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD. 9 Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites. Setelah mezbah Tuhan berdiri, umat Tuhan tidak menyia-nyiakan waktu lagi. Dengan segera, mereka mengumpulkan bahan-bahan untuk membangun Bait Suci. Mereka semuanya bersatu dan bekerja dengan satu hati dan pikiran untuk melayani Tuhan yang hidup. Mereka memberi uang kepada tukang batu dan tukang kayu supaya dengan segera mereka dapat memulai pekerjaan. Mereka juga membawa daging, minuman, dan minyak bagi orang Sidon dan Tirus. Kayu dari pohon cedar Lebanon di sebelah utara juga dibawa untuk dipakai.

Setelah bahan-bahan dikumpulkan, pembangunan dapat dimulai dengan benar di bulan kedua pada tahun kedua. Dipimpin oleh Zerubabel dan Yesua, mereka menunjuk orang Lewi untuk membawahi semua pekerjaan. Dan ketika pembangunan fondasi Bait Suci itu telah rangkum, mereka bersukacita dengan terompet dan ceracap, memuji Tuhan untuk pertolongan yang Tuhan berikan. Memuji Tuhan adalah sesuatu yang baik.

RENUNGKAN: Kita pun harus dapat membangun diri kita karena setiap kita adalah Bait Suci Tuhan.

DOAKAN: Tuhan, sebagaimana umat Tuhan telah membangun Bait Suci, tolong saya untuk dapat membangun diri saya juga, karena tubuh saya adalah Bait Suci Tuhan juga. Tolong saya untuk terus memeriksa hati, mengakui semua dosa-dosa saya, dan juga menjadikan Tuhan yang terutama dalam hidup saya. Dalam nama Tuhan Yesus saya berdoa, amin.

Sekitar 50.000 orang Yahudi kembali ke Yerusalem dari Babel untuk membantu pembangunan kembali rumah Tuhan. Sebenarnya ini hanya sebagian kecil dari orang Yahudi yang tinggal di pembuangan. Walaupun pembangunan rumah Tuhan adalah satu ide yang menarik, tetapi tidak semua orang Yahudi tertarik untuk kembali membangun kembali kerajaan Israel.

Mereka yang berani kembali di bawah pimpinan Zerubabel dan Yosua adalah orang-orang yang mau memberikan Tuhan tempat yang terutama dalam hidup mereka. Mereka bahkan membangun meja persembahan bagi Tuhan untuk korban bakaran sebelum membangun tempat tinggal bagi keluarga mereka. Tuhan adalah perlindungan dan kekuatan mereka. Yang mereka ingin lakukan terlebih dahulu adalah menyembah Tuhan dan membawa korban persembahan dengan setia.

Bandingkan apa yang biasa dilakukan pertama-tama oleh kebanyakan orang ketika mereka tiba di suatu tempat yang baru dengan apa yang dilakukan oleh umat Tuhan dalam bacaan di sini dengan menuliskan hal-hal yang benar di bawah ini:

mencari rumah untuk keluarga

ingat akan hari Tuhan

mencari makanan bagi keluarga

mencari pekerjaan

mencari pakaian

mendirikan mezbah bagi Tuhan

memberi persembahan bagi Tuhan

RENUNGKAN: Abraham membangun meja persembahan bagi Tuhan ke mana pun ia pergi.

DOAKAN: Tuhan Yesus, tolong saya untuk menyembah-Mu ke mana pun saya pergi, dan mencari Tuhan di mana pun saya berada.
